Dr. Torres Explores Concept of Pleasure in Plato's Works

On Thursday, 21 February 2013, Dr. Bernat Torres, a professor in the UIC Faculty of Humanities, gave a lecture titled «On Pleasure and Striking the Right Balance in Plato's Works» as part of the Philosophy Seminar organized by the faculty and aimed at secondary-schools students.

In his lecture, Torres examined the concept of pleasure as interpreted by the philosopher Plato. The speaker used several texts to help provide a clear illustration of how the philosopher dealt with the subject.

Almost 40 secondary-school students took part in the session. It was organized by Dr. Madga Bosch as part of the Philosophy Seminar conference cycle, which is aimed at secondary-school students. Dr. Teresa Vallès, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, also participated in the event by providing information on the bachelor’s degree in Humanities and Cultural Studies.

The next lecture, “Descartes: Metaphysics and Reality”, will be given by Professor Miriam Vidal-Quadras and will take place on Thursday, 21 March 2013.
