Eduard Fitó: «We're Here for More Than Just Making Money»

On Monday, 21 October 2013, Eduard Fitó, the Director of Corporate Development at Semillas Fitó, gave a talk to third-year Business Administration students in the Human Resources subject. Fitó aimed to explain his company's unique human resources policy, which is orientated towards the comprehensive development of company employees.

Semillas Fitó is one of the companies that forms part of the Department of Management by Missions, which was created last academic year. Fitó explained what it means to have a clear business mission and how it affects all company operations. “Clearly defining where you're going and your mission will have a positive impact on human resources policies and your relationship with clients because you're going beyond specific needs”, he said.

He went on to analyse this business philosophy and gave very specific examples of daily activities at the company, including supporting people and implementing friendly environmental policies.

The question lies in conveying a transcendental sense of work. “We are here for more than just keeping the company going and making money", Fitó said. "We want to build a long-term relationship of trust. If this means waiting to take action or even recommending our competitors, we'll do it.” That's why Fitó firmly stressed the importance of training all workers to respect the values that make Semillas Fitó stand out from other companies.

The session generated a great deal of dialogue among the students. "In your work", said Fitó, "you should pay attention to your development and what you contribute to society. The most important thing is not immediate sales to clients, but providing a solution that contributes value and generates a long-term relationship."
