Eight dentistry, law, business administration and management, and architecture students will travel to the US this summer to study at the University of California (UC) Berkeley thanks to a 2016 agreement between the American institution and UIC Barcelona. The students met last Tuesday to get ready for their trip.
Fiona González, Carla Velasco, Magalí German, Inés Blanch, Allegra del Bono, Isabel Gómez, Magalí Aguayo and Daphne Reitelli are the students selected this year to take part in the UC Berkeley Summer Sessions. The Summer Sessions is the course that most exchange UIC Barcelona students will do under the agreement, thanks also to the three Berkeley Grants granted for the first time this year. These grants cover 50% of the enrolment fee.
Last Tuesday, the students selected met with the UIC International Relations team and Dr Jaume Armengou, secretary general of the IESE Business School who during his time at UIC Barcelona made the agreement with the US institution possible. Students shared their expectations, aspirations and any doubts they had about their upcoming trip. The International Relations team brought them up to speed with the academic and cultural differences they were likely to encounter and made recommendations on different aspects, including accommodation.
UC Berkeley is the leading US public university and one of the top five ranked universities in the world. Its faculty boasts 22 Nobel Prize winners, 140 members of the National Academy Of Sciences, 77 Fulbright lecturers and over 200 fellows of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Berkeley, located in the San Francisco Bay Area, is the oldest of the University of California's 10 campuses.
On completion of their courses, the students will be given credit by the University of Berkeley for the subjects they studied to be included in their UIC academic record.
