Lecturer Enrique Rovira-Beleta, director of the Accessibility Area at UIC Barcelona School of Architecture, will serve as a member of the international jury of the Universal Accessibility Award, to be presented at the 17th National Biennale of Mexican Architecture, organised by the Federation of Schools of Architects of the Mexican Republic (FCARM).

This Award constitutes one of the categories of this year’s Biennale and aims to recognise architectural designs and creations by Mexican architects, public or private, in Mexico and abroad, that best incorporate accessibility and the principles of universal design. “Sitting on the international jury for this Award represents a recognition of over 40 years of work to try and normalise the incorporation of accessibility into architecture as far as possible. And not only that, it also represents a recognition of the education we provide at UIC Barcelona, especially as part of the compulsory third year subject Accessibility and as director and coordinator –together with Ana Folch– of the Postgraduate Degree in Accessibility: Universal Design Specialist”.

The submission period for projects is open now until 30 April. The jury will deliberate online during the first half of May, and the awards ceremony is scheduled for early October this year.
