ESARQ Architecture Student Presents Barcelona Architecture in San Francisco

«From Barcelona: Contemporary Architecture Series» is the title of the two-lecture cycle given by architects Esteve Solà and Núria Casquero, alumni of the ESARQ School of Architecture and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), respectively. The lecture series will be held at the San Francisco Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIASF) on the subject of the last fifteen years of architecture in Spain, particularly Barcelona.

The aim is to provide insight into contemporary
architecture in Barcelona and the main architects involved. The architects will
use the two one-and-half-hour sessions to "provide information in Northern
California about the architecture being created in our city", according to
Solà.

Solà and
Casquero will focus on Barcelona to study the relationship between the public
and private buildings designed in the last fifteen years from a social and
urban perspective. The first session, on Thursday, 1 November 2012, focused on
urban planning, neighbourhoods and the master plan of Barcelona.

The second session will be held on Wednesday, 8
November 2012, when the architects will discuss specific projects in Barcelona,
such as the Barceloneta Public
Market (by architect Josep Miàs,
2007) and OMM Hotel (by architects Juli Capella
and Miquel Garcia, 2003), as well as other more or less emblematic
buildings from the period.

The conference cycle has been well received and is
supported by the Cultural Office of the Spanish Consulate, the Barcelona Sister
City Committee, the UPC and the UIC.
