ESARQ School of Architecture Organizes Lecture on Barcelona Cathedral and Tour of ?Extreme Sequences? Exhibition

Dr. Judith Urbano, the Assistant Director of Students in the UIC's ESARQ School of Architecture, delivered a lecture in the Pia Almoina building of the Diocesan Museum of Barcelona on Saturday, 11 February 2012. The Diocesan Museum's expansion of the permanent exhibition on architect Antoni Gaudí prompted the lecture. Afterwards, attendees toured the exhibition "Seqüències extremes? (Extreme Sequences) at the Architecture Institute of Catalonia (COAC).

About 200 people attended Dr. Urbano’s lecture on the
controversial construction of the façade of the Cathedral of Barcelona from
when it started in 1887 until the lantern under the dome was completed in 1912.

Dr. Urbano said the construction of the cathedral was
“paid for by
Manuel Girona and his descendants and was lampooned in the press
and by architects of the time, including
Antoni Gaudi, one of its foremost detractors”.

 After the lecture, Jordi
Roviras
, the Assistant
Director of the Teaching Staff in the ESARQ School of Architecture, led a group
from the university community on a guided tour of the “Extreme
Sequences”
exhibition, which was organized by the ESARQ School of
Architecture to celebrate the institution’s 15th anniversary. The exhibition
opened on 23 January and ran until 18 February 2012.
