ESARQ Students Carry Out Project in Burkina Faso

Students on the International Cooperation II course carried out a project for a training centre in Burkina Faso. A total of three teams presented separate proposals and travelled to the African country. The winning project was also included in an exhibition held at the University College London Bartlett School of Architecture during the London Festival of Architecture.

The project carried out by students in the ESARQ School of Architecture this year was the Mangodara Beekeeping Training and Research Centre in Burkina Faso. The project had to include a school, offices, research centre, honey production site, cultural centre, orchards, housing, cafeteria, cleaning, leisure space, infirmary, security, amenities and closed perimeter.

The students, organized in three work groups, presented their proposals to participating professors and architects, who then chose the best project to represent the ESARQ School of Architecture in the exhibition of models of international cooperation projects at the London Festival of Architecture.

“Beyond the recognition of being chosen to go to London, the most important thing is that all the proposals and models will go to Burkina Faso and contribute to the development of the country. That is a reward for all the students who participated and put in so much hard work and hope”, said Sandra Bestraten, one of the professors on the course along with Emili Hormias.

International Cooperation II is compulsory for fourth-year students in the ESARQ School of Architecture and is taught by Sandra Bestraten and Emili Hormias, together with collaborators Albert Faus, Ferran Grau and Laura Antolin.
