Euro MP Salvador Sedó Gives Talk on Workings of European Parliament

On Friday, 22 November 2013, Salvador Sedó MEP gave the talk «Europe 2014: A Step Forward» to students on the UIC's Law programme. The talk was given as part of the cycle of conferences for continuing education organized by the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences throughout the academic year.

During his talk, the MEP explained how the Parliament worked from an economic and organizational perspective. “Just 2% of the EU budget is spent on bureaucracy and 4% on multilingualism, with the remaining 90% divided amongst the Member States”, he remarked.

Sedó also underlined the role played by the Parliament in its constituent countries and the importance of citizen involvement, especially in terms of elections. “Everything Europe wants to achieve requires the strength and unity of the people”, he affirmed, before speaking out about those who criticize European politicians when tough decisions have to be made, yet fail to congratulate them for the positive things they achieve. “This only serves to create insecurity in Europe and inhibit citizens from voting and getting involved”, he declared.
