The European Union has awarded funding to professor Xavier Baró to undertake research in Albania

Doctor Xavier Baró, acting Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at UIC Barcelona, has received funding from the European Union to undertake a research visit to Albania in order to carry out a research project.

Professor Barón will undertake a stay of around one month in the University of Tirana (Albania) thanks to the funding received after winning a European Union call, as part of the Basileus programme for the Balkans.

During the visit, Xavier Baró, who had to beat 80 projects created by opponents from different universities around Europe - will undertake a research project involving a comparitive study of historial memory. This study will look at the case of Albania during the communist dictatorship of Enver Hoxha, and the case of Spain during the Francoist dictatorship.

Additionally, the European Union has also authorised the provision of funding to translate historical and literary works that are mutually interesting to the two countries.  On the one hand, the Barroque author Baltasar Gracián will be translated into Albanian.  On the other hand, the Kanun, a book of laws from the former communist country will be translaed from Albanian into Spanish.
