The faculties of Educational Sciences and Humanities are participating in a European project to promote university entrepreneurship within cultural and creative industries
The project is being run by a consortium composed of three other universities, a pan-European network of investors and an educational technology and digital art company
UIC Barcelona's Education Sciences and Humanities faculties are participating in the 4ArtPreneur consortium, which was formed through the European Union programme Erasmus+. The aim of the project is to create teaching materials to train university students in the creative and cultural arts in entrepreneurship and to encourage them to acquire skills to set up their own businesses at the end of their studies.
The consortium is made up of three other universities (the Universitat Politècnica de Valencia, the European University Cyprus and the Universidade Aberta), a pan-European network of investors (Mediadeals) and Documenta Creativa Multimediada, a company dedicated to educational technology and digital art.
For the duration of two years, they will carry out a joint pilot project involving a hundred students with the aim of creating an entrepreneurial curriculum based on e-learning methodology and a practical learning approach. The aim is to cultivate innovative thinking and provide students with the collaborative skills needed to start their own businesses in cultural and creative industries.
“Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) are one of the most dynamic economic sectors in the European Union today and account for 4.5% of European GDP. However, Eurostat data show that only a third of entrepreneurs in this sector have a university education. And this is because university students in the field of cultural and creative arts rarely or never receive entrepreneurial training during their time in college,” explain Esther Jiménez and Judith Urbano, deans of the faculties of Education Sciences and Humanities, respectively.
