The 42nd annual conference of the Spanish Society of Prosthodontics and Aesthetics (SEPES) was held in Granada from Thursday to Saturday, 11-13 October 2012. During the conference, five professors from the UIC carried out a ground-breaking practical demonstration of digital prosthetics.
The
professors who took part (Magí Brufau,
José Cabratosa, Santi Costa, Oscar Figueras and Marta Serrat) work in the prosthetics
department of the Faculty of Dentistry. In the practical session, they
demonstrated the possibilities that digital technology offers the production of
prosthetics.
The
demonstration was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the companies
3M, Avinent, Odontècnic and Garbident.
In
addition, those participating in the conference had the opportunity to practise
using the intra-oral LAVA scanner, which allowed them to experience firsthand
how digital design works and the techniques used for finishing prosthetics.
Two years
ago, the same team of professors carried out the first intra-oral scan of an
implant in Spain.
