The Faculty of Law opens up new horizons in the United States and Mexico

Maria Mut and Montserrat Gas visit Columbia University, Iona College, Saint John’s University and Universidad Panamericana

Vice-Dean from the Faculty of Law Dr Montserrat Gas and Dr. Maria Mut travelled to the United States and Mexico to visit a number of universities and educational institutions

Their first stop was in Mexico City and Guadalajara, where they visited campuses in both cities of Universidad Panamericana. On both campuses, they attended meetings with representatives of the university to explore the possibility of Mexican graduate students in Law studying a bachelor’s degree at UIC Barcelona and practising law in Spain.

Their second stop was in New York and the lecturers from the Faculty of Law visited Iona College to take stock of the international agreement between both universities. Indeed, so far six students from UIC Barcelona have taken advantage of the agreement over the past three years.

Mut and Gas also arranged meetings at Saint John’s University to work out the possibility of UIC Barcelona students taking their LLM (Master of Laws) there. This postgraduate Law programme is recognised internationally.  The doctors also discussed the possibility of setting up research stays at this U.S. university as well as at Iona College.

Last but not least, they had an informal meeting with the dean of the Faculty of Law at Columbia University Adam Kolker, with whom they exchanged views and analysed the potential of carrying out research stays or other types of partnership with the university.
