FC Barcelona’s Attorney Speaks at Faculty of Law Graduation
On Friday, 8 May 2015, Joan Manuel Trayter, Head of the Administrative Law Department and attorney for FC Barcelona, gave the keynote address at the graduation ceremony for students in the Faculty of Law and the bachelor’s degree programme in Political Science and Public Administration.
During his address in the UIC Barcelona’s main lecture hall, Dr. Trayter analysed public administration’s current pecuniary liability problems.
Trayter explained how the concept of pecuniary liability has evolved through history. He gave a few real examples to illustrate the conditions necessary for the state to acquire pecuniary liability and talked about the amount of compensation it entails.
Trayter closed his address with encouragement for the students. “Keep fighting, keep trying, keep working. You can achieve whatever you set out to do.”
Following the keynote address, student representatives from both programmes shared fond memories of their years at the UIC Barcelona.
The last speaker was Javier Junceda, Dean of the Faculty of Law, who once again thanked Dr. Trayter for having accepted the invitation to speak at the graduation, congratulated the new graduates and reminded them that their success was a collective endeavour. He also highlighted that the programme they had completed at the UIC Barcelona did not merely involve studying theory – it also had a strong practical component. Continuing along this vein, Junceda discussed the importance of the mock courtroom: “The mock courtroom should be to the student of law what the operating room is to the student of medicine. It is fundamental tool for teaching the legal sciences.”
The ceremony closed with the traditional singing of Gaudeamus Igitur.
