The fifth edition of the UNIRUN, a big success
The winner of the University Race was Aimane Eddaifi, who competed on behalf of UIC Barcelona.
A total of 4,400 athletes recently took part in the fifth edition of the Unirun, which was run last Sunday in Parc del Fòrum over a distance of 6,779 metres. The winner in the men’s competition was Aimane Eddaifi (20:30), who defended the colours of the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, while the first woman to cross the finish was Mercè Guerra (24:57), from the Pompeu Fabra University.
Altogether, 120 runners from UIC Barcelona entered the race. On the men’s podium, Pablo Tarditti was the UIC Barcelona runner with the second fastest time (23:05), while the top place finisher in the women’s competition was Laura Gutiérrez (30:43).
The race, which was promoted by ECU (Catalan University Sports), with support from the Secretariat-General of Sport and the city councils of Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs, sponsored by Adidas and organised by Gaudium Sports, unfolded amid a festive, sportive atmosphere. The t-shirts sporting Adidas’ three stripes and the logos of each university inundated the course, in a race that featured all 12 Catalan universities and traced the shoreline of the Sant Martí district of Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs.
For the fifth year in a row, the University of Barcelona (542 points) clinched the Unirun Champions Cup. Rounding off the podium were the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, in 2nd place (688 points), and the Pompeu Fabra University, in 3rd (701 points). UIC Barcelona finished 7th in the overall university standings.
