First-year Architecture students visit the COAC and ITeC headquarters
Both visits form part of the incoming students’ Welcome Week at UIC Barcelona School of Architecture
On 8 September, first-year students from UIC Barcelona School of Architecture visited the headquarters of the Official College of Architects of Catalonia (COAC) and the Catalonia Institute of Construction Technology (ITeC). The students were joined by the director of the School, Josep Lluis i Ginovart, and their student coordinator, Marta Benages.
During their visit to the ITeC, the students were welcomed by the innovation project manager, David Sabatés, who explained and pointed out the Institute’s main lines of work that promote innovation in the construction sector. The students then participated in a workshop in which they had to outline the challenges to be faced by the architecture and the construction sectors over the coming years.
The students then visited the headquarters of the Official College of Architects of Catalonia (COAC). Duna Bellmunt, member of the Board of Governors, was tasked with welcoming the future architects to the College. Jorge García de la Cámara, director of the College's Services, then informed the group about the resources the COAC makes available them as students of Architecture. To conclude the trip, the students visited the COAC’s historical archives and library, guided by its director, Fernando Marzá, and by the archive manager, Andreu Carrascal. The students were able to see, first hand, a selection of the documentary collections, including historical examples by Vitruvius, Andrea Palladio, Ildefons Cerdà and Le Corbusier. They were also able to observe original documentation from design projects such as the University of Barcelona, the Universal Exhibitions of 1888 and 1929 in Barcelona, and Can Negre.
