The first year of the Postgraduate Degree in Allergology for Nurses has begun

This is an innovative postgraduate programme in Spain focused on providing nursing professionals with the knowledge they need to correctly manage and treat allergic pathologies

The first edition of the Postgraduate Degree in Allergology for Nurses kicked off last January, giving nursing professionals the opportunity to receive specific training in how to treat these pathologies that are so common in our society.

The postgraduate programme is coordinated by Dr Enrique Martí Guadaño, lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at UIC Barcelona and head of the Allergy Unit at the Hospital Universitari General de Catalunya and the Hospital Universitari Sagrat Cor; and by Dr Arantza Vega Castro, allergist and lecturer at the same Faculty.

As Dr Martí Guadaño explains, “allergies are becoming more and more prevalent in society and it is essential that future medical and nursing practitioners are trained from university level to treat them”. As such, the students on the first edition of the postgraduate programme will spend six months learning about allergic diseases from experts in the field and from an immunological point of view, as well as techniques used to diagnose them and the existing therapeutic protocols.

With the launch of the Postgraduate Degree in Allergology for Nursing, the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences has taken another step forward in its commitment to the comprehensive training of health professionals, after also including an official subject on allergic diseases in the Bachelor's Degree in Medicine, making it the first Catalan university to do so and one of only a handful in Spain.
