Flores & Prats Give «Pocket Conference» at 2013 ESARQ Forum

On Tuesday, 19 February 2013, the architecture studio Flores & Prats gave the second lecture in this year's ESARQ Forums, the theme of which is «Atmospheres. The Sense of Things». The title of the lecture was «Pocket Conference».

The aim of the conference was to describe and provide the reasoning behind the projects carried out by Flores & Prats through the discourse that is generated in the everyday practice of architecture.

The concept of the “Pocket Conference” stems from “that talk you carry around with you, that you open up to reveal a series of images. Everyone in the studio is held inside that little object, in your pocket. Each project is linked to the next, and to the next, and the next, and so on. A memory, knowledge and experiences that make it possible to reinterpret your professional career in an almost cyclical way”.

The studio Flores & Prats is dedicated to confronting theory and academic practice through design and construction. Its founding members, Eva Prats and Ricardo Flores, are project professors at the Barcelona School of Architecture of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya(ETSAB). In the past, they formed part of the management team at Wallpaper* magazine, they were invited to conduct workshops at various universities in the United States, Europe, Argentina and Australia, and they received several prestigious prizes, including the 2009 Grand Award for the Best Work in Architecture from the Royal Academy of Arts in London.

They are currently finishing work on the Casal Balaguer Cultural Centre in Palma de Mallorca and have won the competition to design the new Beckett Room International Drama Workshop in Barcelona.

The subject ESARQ Forums is dedicated to discussing and reflecting on the realities of architecture. The main objective of the lectures is to share knowledge, perspectives and contrasts between students and teachers on the theory and criticism of architectural work. This year, the aim is to discover a new architectural perspective through thoughtful, sensitive and intelligent attention to the different speakers.
