The Fourteenth Updates in Dentistry Conference gathers together more than 800 professionals
The event also saw the Dr Miquel Cortada Award for best Final Degree Project presented to Aizea Arrien, and for best Final Master’s Degree Project, to Natalia Carranza
On 2 October, the Faculty of Dentistry celebrated the Fourteenth Updates in Dentistry Conference. This year’s blended event featured a mixture of online sessions and several face-to-face workshops, held at the Sant Cugat Campus. The Conference brought together more than 800 professionals and was held in collaboration with more than 15 dental companies.
This year's Conference was attended by 44 leading professionals who gave online presentations that focused on the main specialties: prosthetics, dental aesthetics, endodontics, orthodontics, odontopediatrics, integral clinic, preventive dentistry, periodontics, surgery, patients with special needs and gerodontology, and dental management. In addition, the Sant Cugat Campus facilities hosted nine face-to-face workshops involving around 120 participants. “Our Faculty has made great efforts to adapt and respond to the changes that have marked today’s hybrid context. For this reason, and with the objective of regaining direct contact with students and colleagues in the profession, this year’s event has combined online sessions with face-to-face workshops”, explained Dr Lluís Giner, dean of the Faculty of Dentistry. “This has enabled us to share knowledge and experiences more intimately, and has given us the opportunity to learn about what’s new in the industry”.
As part of the Fourteenth Updates in Dentistry Conference, the Dr Miquel Cortada Award was also presented in recognition of the best Final Degree Project and best Final Master's Degree Project. In the first category, the Award was presented to Aizea Arrien for her study titled “Éxito en cirugías apicales de dientes con defectos óseos o pérdida marginal: revisión sistemática” (‘Successful apical surgery for teeth with bone defects or marginal loss: a systematic review’). Then, the Award for best Master's Degree Project was presented to Natalia Carranza, alumni from the Master's Degree in Comprehensive Paediatric and Hospital Dentistry, for her study “New-born tongue-tie: Incidence and feeding outcomes after lingual frenotomy”.
