Humanities Can Change the World

On Wednesday, 17 April 2013, the UIC Faculty of Humanities held the 4th edition of the humanities workshop "Humanities in a Changing Professional World". Prominent professionals from different international cultural organizations discussed their current situation and the career paths available to Humanities graduates.

The event consisted of a roundtable discussion aimed at students in their last year of secondary school and professors, as well as people interested in culture. It was presided over by Marta Crispí, the Director of the Master's Degree Programme in Cultural Management in the Faculty of Humanities.

In this edition, the guest speakers were from very different fields, ranging from communication to cultural heritage. The guest speaker in the field of cultural heritage was Mercedes Basso, who has a degree in Art History and a Master's degree in Museography. She is the General Director of the Art and Patronage Foundation.

The other speakers were Mercedes Giovinazzo, who has a degree in Archaeology and a Master's degree in Cultural Management and is the Director of the Interarts Foundation and President of the Executive Committee of Culture Action Europe; Ferran Tarradellas, who has degrees in History and Journalism and is the Head of Regional Press for the European Commission Representation in Spain; Patricia Ferrando, who has a degree in Spanish Philology and a Master's degree in Business Administration and is the Director of Hiring and Recruitment at Indra, as well as the Founder and Director of esTalento; and Cristina Smandia, who has a degree in Humanities and a postgraduate degree in Cultural Communication and Operational Marketing and currently works in CaixaForum and CosmoCaixa.

The Faculty of Humanities organized this workshop for the fourth year running. The objective was to demonstrate the relevance of Humanities studies in a society that requires more and more professional experts in the field and to inform future students about their career options.
