ICO To Become UIC Institute

The UIC and the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) have signed a framework collaboration agreement, under the terms of which the ICO will become an Institute of the UIC.

The objective of the agreement is to maximize use of the ICO's healthcare resources, both human and material and to facilitate continuous improvement in the quality of teaching at the university.

The collaboration will take effect in the clinical and healthcare education of medical and nursing students at all levels in the UIC.

In addition, the two institutions will work together to promote the continuing education of healthcare professionals and research in the area of health sciences, in particular, by fostering projects in the field of oncology.

Dr. Candela Calle, the Director General of the ICO, and Dr. Pere Alavedra, the Rector of the UIC, were present at the signing of the agreement. The Catalan Institute of Oncology is a public institution devoted exclusively to the study and treatment of cancer. It is a multi-faceted organization that deals with all aspects of the disease, including prevention, care, specialized training and research. It has three centres, in L’Hospitalet, Girona and Badalona, and works in cooperation with a network of eighteen regional hospitals, making it the oncology centre of reference for 45% of the adult population of Catalonia.
