The importance of the mission in selection processes

María Córdoba, Head of Human Resources at Synthon Iberia, gave a talk to 3rd year Business Administration and Management students on Human Resource Management within the framework of a series of conferences organised as part of the subject they are taking.

María Córdoba has more than 15 years of experience in the sector. After presenting the work of Synthon Iberia, she underlined the role of selection in the company strategy.  The company’s mission should underline the contribution and profile of people they would like to attract to the company, explained Córdoba.  She also underlined the importance of selecting people based on the company’s values (cost, quality, innovation, motivation and leadership).

Along these lines, she explained that at Synthon Iberia they work based on highly specific standardised processes in relation to staff selection, based on this premise.  “It is very important to be clear about the profile of the people the company is interested in, not only in terms of knowledge and skills but also in terms of attitude”, said Córdoba.  The prosocial motivation of employees it taken more and more into account, in other words, whether they feel committed to the company’s mission, thus ensuring employees identify with the company.

The end of the session was more practical.  Córdoba presented some real examples of letters of motivation, CVs, photographs, and questionnaires that the students had to discuss and evaluate.  The speaker underlined the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication and suggested a series of mechanisms and recommendations to be taken into account during their own selection processes.
