The Institute for Multilingualism holds the 6th edition of its Spring Research Seminar

The main objective of the event was to exchange research interests related to applied linguistics and multilingual education with professors and lecturers from other universities and other faculties in UIC Barcelona

On Friday, 11 June, UIC Barcelona hosted the 6th edition of the Spring Research Seminar, an annual research seminar organised by the Institute for Multilingualism in the Department of Applied Linguistics.

This year's edition, entitled “Multilingualism and Language Learning”, was held online with more than 60 registered participants from around the world (including the U.S. the United Kingdom, Greece, Algeria, and Hong Kong). They were all able to attend the two main plenary sessions by Dr Cristina Escobar Urmeneta from theUniversitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Dr Roger Gilabert Guerrero from the University of Barcelona.

The invited speakers shared their research in the field of multilingualism and addressed issues related to the acquisition of second languages, teaching English and Spanish as foreign languages and Integrated Content and Language Learning (AICLE) approaches and Integrating Content and Language in Higher Education (ICLES).

The event, which began at 9 in the morning and ended at 5 in the afternoon, was also attended by experts from Catalan, Spanish and international universities who, through presentations, covered topical issues such as the creation, implementation and evaluation of university degrees in English in Catalonia, the benefits for students who take programmes  where English is the language of instruction, innovative didactic proposals to promote foreign language learning and the important role that needs analysis should play in the design of activities and tasks in the classroom.

Attendees and participants had the opportunity to socialise and interact via Gather Town, the online platform for networking between sessions and conferences
