Jaume Armengou, a new member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors
Our Vice-Rector for Academic Organisation and International Relations, Jaume Armengou Orús, was recently welcomed as a new member of the Royal European Academy of Doctors (Raeder). The reception took place yesterday 2 February in the function room in the Foment del Treball Nacional headquarters.
During the event to welcome him as a new member of Raeder, Dr Armengou gave a talk entitled La teoría de la semejanza y el gobierno universitario. In representation of Raeder, the member and academic, Dr Eugenio Oñate Ibáñez de Navarra, holder of a PhD in Civil Engineering, gave a speech in response to the one given by Dr Armengou.
Dr Armengou, holder of a degree in Civil Engineering, paid tribute in his speech to all the people who over the years have contributed to his education and development as a person and a professional. While setting up an analogy with “similitude theory” from the field of engineering, he identified the key points that explain the existence and mission of universities, “institutions that have a large social impact and are currently undergoing a profound transformation”. Prioritising the employability of students through the education they receive, the need to find a balance between teaching and research and the evaluation of professors/lecturers were some of the issues he addressed in his speech.
While making his speech, Dr Jaume Armengou was accompanied by his patrons for the welcoming ceremony, Dr José Daniel Barquero and Dr Jaime Rodrigo, as well as colleagues from the industry, other members of the Academy and friends and colleagues from UIC Barcelona.
