Dr.
Javier Junceda, the Dean of the UIC Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences, has
been awarded an honorary degree in Law from Universidad Antenor Orrego in Peru. This is second time
the dean has received such an honour in Peru; in April 2012, he was awarded his
first honorary degree in Law from Universidad
Antonio Guillermo Urrelo in Cajamarca.

Dr.
Junceda, who
was born in 1968, studied Law at the Universidad de Oviedo and then went on to
complete a doctoral degree in Administrative Law at the Universidad de
Valladolid. He has published a dozen articles and six books in Peru, where his
thesis on the mining industry and the environment is attracting great interest.
The speech he gave at the investiture ceremony addressed the subject “Environmental
Arbitration”.

Throughout
his career, Dr. Junceda has combined practising law with an academic career in Spain and
Latin America. He has written numerous publications and participated in several
university research projects and scientific courses. He is a member of the
Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation and the Asturian Academy of
Jurisprudence; an honorary member of the Bar Association of Lima and the Bar
Association of La Libertad, both in Peru; and an honorary and visiting professor at six other
American universities.
