Jordi Badia Exhibits His Work at Two Galleries in Europe Specializing in Architecture

The ESARQ professor and founder of the BAAS Arquitectura studio was invited to exhibit his work at the Dessa Gallery in Slovenia, which specializes in the architecture of Ljubljana, and at the Centre Méridional de l'Architecture et de la Ville (CMAV) in Toulouse.

After participating in Project Studio in May 2012, which was organized by the University of Architecture Ljubljana Ple?nik, and publishing the compilation book from the Shaping the City workshop, Jordi Badia inaugurated “Architecture and City” in Ljubljana on Monday, 3 June 2013. The exhibition is an overview of his career through eleven projects involving public and private buildings that construct the city based on respect for the context and the end user. The exhibition provides a chronological overview of Badia's career and addresses the existence and function of empty spaces in architecture as something to be preserved in the physiognomy of cities.  According to Badia, “Architecture should step back when necessary and leave behind its unique character to embrace the context and work with it collaboratively. It must accept its condition with modesty. A building is just a small piece of a large puzzle that has grown over the centuries.”

Furthermore, the exhibition “Persistent Emptiness” was inaugurated on Thursday, 20 June 2013, in Toulouse, thanks to the growing relationship the architect has with the city and his previous work with the association Actions, Studies and Research on Architecture (AREA), the Council of Architecture, Urban Planning and the Environment of Haute-Garonne (CAUE 31) and the Université Toulouse-Le Mirail (ENSA). The installation provides an overview of the studio's career through management of empty spaces, the eloquent silences that architecture uses to construct the city. Badia said, “Very often the most important thing in architecture is not what's built, but what isn't built”.

With regard to the exhibition "Persistent Emptiness", on Thursday, 20 June, the CMAV also inaugurated "Architectural Rowers" an adaptation of the exhibition presented at the past edition of the Venice Biennale. The exhibition also includes a roundtable discussion. "Architectural Rowers" was sponsored by the Ramon Llull Institute, the Architecture Institute of Catalonia (COAC) and the Architecture Institute of the Balearic Islands (COAIB). Jordi Badia and Félix Arranz are the co-curators of the exhibition.
