José Casas Vázquez, former member of the Board of Trustees and the UIC Barcelona University Advisory Council, dies
Dr Casas was a consultant and promoter of the University since the institution was first set up
Dr José Casas, a member of the Board of Trustees since the University was founded until 2003 and a member of the University Advisory Council at UIC Barcelona between 2003 and 2018, has passed away.
Dr José Casas was a lecturer and full professor of physics in the Faculty of Sciences at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and director of the Department of Physics and Secretariat of Faculty of Science at the UAB.
He enjoyed an extensive career in the world of academia.
Apart from being an excellent teacher able to convey his passion for the topics he taught to his students, in 2005 he was appointed Corresponding Academic to the Royal Sevillian Academy of Science.
Once he completed his doctoral thesis, on elementary particles, around 1970 he transferred his focus to the thermodynamics of irreversible processes.
He did so to such as extent that he became one of the founding fathers of this specialist area in Spanish universities.
His enthusiasm for research means that his scientific body of work consists of over one hundred and fifty research articles published in international journals.
Some of this work has been cited a great deal and is now classic reference material in this specialist field.
At UIC Barcelona we would like to express our deepest condolences to his family, and we ask that you pray for him.
