Josep Lluís Falcó Given Muñoz Suay Award by Spanish Film Academy

Josep Lluís Falcó, a professor in the Faculty of Communication Sciences, was given the Muñoz Suay Award by the Spanish Arts and Film Academy for his book ?Reyes Abades. Rompiendo Moldes' (Reyes Abades: Breaking Moulds).

The Muñoz Suay Award, given each year by the Spanish Arts and Film Academy, recognizes the best works of historical research on the Spanish film industry.

In Reyes Abades. Rompiendo moldes, Josep Lluís Falcó reviews the career of Reyes Abades, the most experienced and prolific special effects expert in Spanish film. The book combines experience and personal reflections, technical explanations and anecdotes of shoots from some of the 300 films on which Abades has worked. "The book has been given the award because it offers readers the chance to get to know one of the most prestigious technicians in Spanish film, a self-made man who turned special effects into a profession that didn't exist before his arrival", said the academy.

Josep Lluís Falcó (Barcelona, 1964) is an associate professor of the History of Film in the UIC and the Universitat de Barcelona (UB). His 20 years' researching music and film, with a focus on Spanish composers, has resulted in several articles and lectures. He is also the author of Gregorio García Segura: Historia, Testimonio y Análisis de un Músico de Cine; Els Compositors de Cinema a Catalunya (1930-1959) and Els Compositors de Cinema de Catalunya (1960-1989)
