Justice in Sport

On Thursday, 1 March 2012, a conference on sports law was held in the Graduate Hall. It was organized by the Vice Dean of Law of the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences as part of the continuing education programme.

Over 50 attendees were given the opportunity to learn about different aspects of sports law through presentations by Manel Hernández, a partner at Sagardoy Lawyers, who talked about some of the key features involved in the recruitment of professional athletes; Xavier Albert Canal, a partner at BCD-IURISPORT and the president of the Sports Law Department of the Bar Association of Barcelona, who talked about changes in athletes' income tax; and Lucas Ferrer, a partner and the director of the Sports Law Department at Pintó Ruiz & Del Valle and a former arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, who talked about recent case law of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The conference was presided over by Dr. Javier Junceda, the Dean of the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences, and presented by Josep Maldonado Gili, a senator and the president of the Catalan Sports Advisory Board.
