The key to competence-based learning in the humanities baccalaureate under debate once again at UIC Barcelona

The fifth Training Event for Humanities Baccalaureate teachers was held on 20 and 21 April.

The fifth Training Event for Humanities Baccalaureate Teachers was held on 20 and 21 April at UIC Barcelona.  Entitled “The key to competence-based learning at baccalaureate level, a cross-disciplinary approach” the aim was to reflect on the keys and didactic experiences of this learning at baccalaureate level.

The sessions, organised by the Official Society of Doctors and Holders of Degrees in Philosophy and the Arts and UIC Barcelona, were undertaken based on a format that combines lectures with workshops.

The speakers answered questions such as whether it is possible to evaluate reading comprehension at baccalaureate level or what strategies can help students to think.

For Dr Javier Valle, a lecturer from the Autonomous University of Madrid, the driving force behind competence-based education is clear: to transmit a passion for literature, philosophy or history.

More than 40 teachers from various humanities specialisations in different schools in Catalonia attended this event.  The closing speech was given by Dr Xavier Ibáñez, a teacher and assistant headteacher of Sant Gregori school.
