Lack of Healthcare Awareness Detrimental to Patient-Centred Care

Dr. Emilia Arrighi, the Head of Research at the UIC's Global Institute of Public Health and Health Policy (IGS), took part in the conference, «Changing Habits in Healthcare», in Madrid on Tuesday, 12 November 2013.

Arrighi was a participant in the roundtable discussion, “Healthcare Abilities and Changing Habits”, and gave the talk, “Healthcare Skills and Abilities”. The IGS Head of Research revealed how a lack of healthcare awareness in patients can affect their capacity for self care. She also gave an account of lines of research and training activities being developed by the IGS to help equip healthcare professionals with health coaching strategies to encourage joint responsibility for patient health.

The conference was organized by the Mapfre Foundation. It addressed the key issues involved in patient-centred care, which it identified as one of the challenges facing contemporary society.
