Language learning in multilingual contexts is the focus of the 9th edition of UIC Barcelona Spring Research Conference
About 70 people participated in this annual research seminar organised by the Institute for Multilingualism, part of the Department of Applied Linguistics of UIC Barcelona. This year, the theme of the ninth edition of the seminar was the dissemination of research in language learning in multilingual contexts.
With the title “Language Learning in Multilingual Contexts”, the conference took place on 22 March at the Sant Cugat Campus, with the participation of people from countries around the world, such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Finland, India, and the United States, Japan and Canada. The seminar promotes a multicultural exchange of views in relation to linguistic research.
On this occasion, the main objective of the conference was the dissemination of research on language learning in multilingual contexts. Judit Kormos from Lancaster University, and Darío Luis Banegas of Edinburgh University, gave the two main presentations of the seminar.
During her presentation, Judit Kormos addressed the equivalent access to language learning for students with neurodiversity. In the afternoon session, Darío Luis Banegas raised the question of whether teachers are being properly prepared for language teaching in and for multilingual contexts.
The Institute for Multilingualism of the Department of Applied Linguistics has been organising the Spring Research Conference for almost 10 years. The conference has grown each year to become an international meeting that takes the dissemination of linguistic research as a central theme, this year focusing on multicultural diversity.
