Laparoscopy Exercise in Faculty of Medicine

On Wednesday, 29 February 2012, fourth-year Medicine students at the UIC carried out a second laparoscopic-surgery exercise in the skills and simulation laboratories on the Sant Cugat Campus as part of the Digestive System and Urology subjects.

The
exercise was a success thanks to collaboration from the company Olympus, which provided the Faculty of Medicine and
Health Sciences with four laparoscopic towers. This equipment, together with
the two laparoscopy trainers available to the Faculty, enabled all of the
students to develop a good technique.

Laparoscopy
is a minimally invasive surgical technique that allows students to acquire
skills in other modern, minimally invasive techniques through simulation.

The
purpose of this laboratory is to familiarize students with the instruments and
materials needed during surgery, to provide them with the skills required to
handle laparoscopic equipment and to enable them to carry out exercises with
organic and inorganic materials and acquire the coordination and skills
necessary for cutting, dissecting and suturing.
