Lawyer Ignacio Ripol Gives Talk on Arbitral Awards

Ignacio Ripol, a lawyer at the Oversea law practice, which specializes in arbitration, gave a lecture to UIC law students as part of the continuing education programme organized by the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences.

His
lecture, which was titled “Enforcement of Arbitral Awards”, reflected on the
basic concepts of arbitration, enforcement and the prospects and challenges for
the future. He revealed that people are increasingly resorting to arbitration
as an alternative way to resolve disputes.

He
also highlighted a list of the advantages of arbitration over court cases
within the context of the current crisis and said, “Arbitration is cheaper and
quicker than going to court”. Ripol went on to say, “The challenge we face is
to give arbitration more impact by ensuring that awards are rapidly enforced by
the justice system”.
