Learning About Political Leadership Through Today's Politicians

The subject Political Leadership Techniques is being launched in the fourth year of the Bachelor's Degree Programme in Political Science and Public Administration. The subject is taught by Dr. Montserrat Nebrera and will be held between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. every Friday from September to the end of December.

As Dr.
Nebrera herself said, “It is a very important part of the degree programme
because of the subject matter and the increasingly apparent need to investigate
the clear lack of strong political leadership at the current time”.

Last year
the course consisted of a series of lectures given by experts in various fields
on the subject of leadership: personal growth, women in leadership, business
leadership, the media, etc. This year it will include a tour of the different
institutions that will obviously begin with the Parliament of Catalonia.

The
professor's idea for this subject is that “all of the political groups be
represented by one of its members of parliament, and the intention is for them
to talk about their personal careers, their experience of leadership and their
opinions on crucial issues such as the difference between leadership and power,
or between leadership within the party and outside the party (towards the
public), relations between the parliamentary group and the party, etc.”.

In addition
to the lecture already given by member of parliament Anna Simó from the Republican Left of Catalonia on Friday, 21
September 2012, the following people are scheduled to give lectures: Santi Vila, the mayor of Figueres and a member of parliament for the
Democratic Convergence of Catalonia, on 28 September; Alfons López Tena of Catalan Solidarity for
Independence on 5 October; and Salvador Milà
of the Initiative for Catalonia Greens on 12 October. Others will follow,
although the schedule has not yet been confirmed due to the upcoming elections
on 25 November.
