Lecturer De Miranda, speaker at the 12th International Conference on Procedural Law in Colombia

During his summer visit, he gave several conferences and taught classes on aspects related to electronic evidence

This summer, Carlos de Miranda, a lecturer in the Faculty of Law, travelled to Colombia to take part in the 12th International Conference on Procedural Law. Held in the city of Medellín from 29-31 August, Dr De Miranda delivered a presentation entitled “El control de la valoración de la prueba en la segunda instancia: problemas teóricos, problemas prácticos” [Control of the evaluation of the evidence upon appeal: Theoretical and practical problems].

In it, he advocated a distinct philosophy with regards to trials and evidence. As compared to a rhetorical version, he holds the quest for truth in a case as vital. “In today’s day and age, procedural legislation regulates trials and, especially, evidence as if the litigants were boxers in a ring, with the judge merely playing the role of a referee, waiting for one of the fighters to defeat the other”, the lecturer explained.

In Colombia, Dr De Miranda not only gave a number of conferences, but he also taught classes at the University of Antioquia (Medellín) and the CESMAG University Institution (Pasto).
