Lecturer Manuel Flores contributes to a book published by the WHO and the OECD
His chapter analyses the need to combat regional inequalities in the field of dependency in Spain.
Manuel Flores, lecturer at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences and researcher at the Research Institute for Evaluation and Public Policies at UIC Barcelona, has contributed to a book published by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on different care systems for dependent persons. Specifically, the publication analyses the different models currently in use in countries such as Australia, France, Japan, South Korea, the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and Spain.
Flores has participated with his chapter dedicated to the situation in Spain, with a study that analyses the need to combat regional inequalities in the field of dependency in the country. The Faculty’s lecturer addresses the complexity of the Autonomy and Dependency Care System (SAAD) since its implementation in 2007, and the difficulties it has encountered regarding funding over the years, which has led to long waiting lists for dependent individuals.
Throughout the chapter, Flores comments on the progress made by the Spanish care model for dependent adults and points out its challenges, bearing in mind that Spain is set to become one of the countries with the oldest population in the OECD, according to forecasts.
