Maria Cerrato, a Faculty of Education lecturer, has contributed a chaper to the newly published book “Traversing the Doctorate: Reflections and Strategies from Students, Supervisors and Administrators.” The book is edited by Tanya Machin and Patrick Alan Danaher from the University of Southern Queensland, and Marc Clarà, from the Universitat de Lleida, examines the multiple PhD education programmes around the world.

 

The chapter written by the lecturer is titled “A Picture of the Research Field of Doctoral Education from the Students' Perspectives: Studies Using Questionnaires and Scales” and is based on her own research. In the chapter, Cerrato reviews the instruments that have been used in the literature to compile PhD experiences “taking into account that research development is an emerging research area within higher education,” states the author.

 

In this book, the editors and collaborators have focused on the diversity of approaches of PhDs, including experiences from Australia, Finland, Chile, New Zealand and Spain. The main aim of the book is to explore the multiple ways in which students, supervisors and managers experience the PhD programmes.
