Lecturer Rebeca Pardo receives a grant to research the bioethical implications of photographically depicting COVID-19

The Víctor Grífols i Lucas Foundation has chosen this project, carried out alongside lecturer Montse Morcate from the University of Barcelona, from among 48 candidates who submitted research projects.

The lecturer from the UIC Barcelona Faculty of Communication Sciences Rebeca Pardo, has been awarded a grant from the Víctor Grífols i Lucas Foundation to help finance the research project “Ética de las imágenes de la enfermedad, muerte y duelo en tiempos de COVID-19” (‘Ethics of images depicting illness, death and mourning in times of COVID-19’), in which Montse Morcate, lecturer from the University of Barcelona, is also participating.

The study aims to identify the bioethical implications of photographically depicting COVID-19 in the Spanish media.  It involves analysing pandemic-specific photographic narratives, with a particular focus on emblematic and problematic pictures taken by both professional photographers and citizens.  As such, not only will the study investigate images published in the media, but also those shared over social media networks.

The project has been chosen from among 48 candidates who submitted projects to the call.
