Lecturer Silvia Requena takes part in the first edition of the Forum on Autonomous Cars

The forum explored the paradigm of mobility and, more specifically, the emergence of the concept of autonomous mobility

On 27 November, Silvia Requena, a lecturer in the Faculty of Law, took part in the first edition of the Forum on Autonomous Cars, which was held at the headquarters of the Catalan Association of Industrial Engineers in Barcelona.

During her talk, Requena assured attendees that giving decision-making power to machines or artificial intelligence software will bring numerous problems in terms of the objective and subjective responsibility for human actions and, first and foremost, in determining who is ethically at fault.

This forum was created to discuss state-of-the-art technology and the judicial and legislative changes that must be made, as well as explain the stance of Public Authorities and the strategies for the future of automotive manufacturers. According to the lecturer, “the legal changes that must be implemented, and close ethical links with new technology, will be by no means pacific, and even less so in the event of an accident”.
