Lecturers Román Pérez and Xavier Gil, regarded among the most influential researchers according to the Stanford Ranking: World’s Top 2% Scientists

Roman Pérez and Xavier Gil, lecturers in the Basic Sciences department and researchers at the Bioengineering Institute of Technology (BIT) of UIC Barcelona, have been placed in the Stanford Ranking of the World Scientists, considered the most prestigious ranking in the world, which highlights the 200,000 most influential prestigious researchers in different disciplines.

Since 1996, Stanford University (USA) has been conducting this prestigious study, which assesses the impact of scientific publications by researchers around the world. The results are updated each year in this list, known as the World’s Top 2 % Scientists, published in the international scientific journal Elsevier.

In the field of Biomedical Engineering this year's ranking includes the name of 1,246 researchers from all over the world with 14 Spanish scientists. Among these 14 are Román Pérez, head of the Bioengineering Institute of Technology (BIT) at UIC Barcelona and director of the degree in Bioengineering, and Xavier Gil, lecturer of the bachelor’s degree and researcher at BIT. The two lecturers in the Basic Sciences department have been included in the prestigious ranking for the impact of their publications on biomaterials for tissue regeneration.

The classification has been developed based on several parameters such as the number of indexed publications, citations received, h-index, co-authorship and a score composite indicator. 
The overall ranking includes eight more UIC Barcelona researchers in the areas of Medicine, Dentistry and Architecture.
