Luis Meseguer, former Audiovisual Communication student, receives an honourable mention at the International Sacred Music Awards
The former Audiovisual Communication student from UIC Barcelona (2016), Luis Meseguer Mira, received an honourable mention at the ninth International Sacred Music Awards, organised by the Fernando Rielo Foundation, for his piece titled “...porque serán consolados” (because they will be consoled). Fifty composers from twelve different countries took part in the Awards.
Luis Meseguer was one of the four finalists to perform at the final concert held in San Miguel de los Santos Church in Madrid. The Italian composer Matteo Magistrali with his piece “Beati”, for mixed choir and chamber orchestra, was awarded the winning prize of €5,000. The other two finalists were Raffaele Esposito (Italy) and Nicholas Gotch (United Kingdom).
The works submitted to this year’s Awards were based on two beatitudes: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted" and "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God" from the Gospel of St. Matthew.
Forty-seven composers from Colombia, France, Germany, Spain, the United States, Greece, Italy, Morocco, Mexico, Norway, United Kingdom and Venezuela, took part in the ninth edition of these Awards. At the concert held on 13 November in Madrid, the QNK.OPERA choir and orchestra performed the finalists' pieces, conducted by Ignacio Yepes.
Luis Meseguer is currently working as a composer and completing the final year of his Bachelor’s Degree in Composition at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC).
