Faculty of Humanities lecturer Magdalena Bosch and Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences lecturer Miquel Bastons have published the article "Spirituality as reinforcement of people-focused work: a philosophical foundation" in the first-quartile journal Journal of Management, Spirituality & Religion.

The article aims to provide a philosophical foundation for why spirituality reinforces prosocial motivation and people-focused work, a question previously addressed by Aristotle, by explaining what it is and how the human spirit acts. Research shows spirituality produces a motivation orientated to the needs of others and an intellectual and emotional “openness” to those around us, which strengthens cooperation and acts as a "social glue".

The research concludes that the reinforcement of PFW produced by spirituality derives from the “openness to” that essentially constitutes the activity of human spirit. According to Dr Bosch, “People-focused work is possible because of the human ability to transcend one's own pleasure and self-interest.”
