Mango's Corporate Social Responsibility Director Talks to Business Students about CSR

Xavier Carbonell, the Director of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the textile company Mango, gave a lecture on Wednesday, 17 September 2014, to students in the last year of the Business Administration programme within the context of the subject Business Economics taught by Profs. Carlos Rey and Marta Mas.

During the lecture, Carbonell highlighted the key features of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in companies and how it has been implemented over the years. He also discussed the specific case of Mango and explained how the commitment to CSR is reflected in company policies.

Carbonell said, “At Mango, our aim is to act sustainably in all our areas of influence, regardless of whether they are internal or external. To be able to do this, our organization has established a set of commitments on social, labour, environmental and product-safety matters and has prepared documents explaining each one.”

Carbonell said, "We're convinced that we’re acting responsibly because we have been able to satisfy the expectations of our interest groups (customers, employees, suppliers, society, franchisees and shareholders) by working jointly with them to define and implement our policies."

He also explained how the company's Department of Corporate Social Responsibility works to monitor all company departments to ensure they comply with these commitments. These CSR policies focus specifically on sustainability, labour/social matters in the supply chain, an environmental commitment not to emit greenhouse gases, a commitment to quality and safety in the control of harmful substances in company products, and a commitment to cooperation with society in the area of social action.

The session was held within the context of the subject Economics and Business, which is taught by Profs. Carlos Rey and Marta Mas and forms part of the Department of Management by Missions and Corporate Governance.
