Marc Grau co-edits a new book on paternal involvement and the benefits for families, fathers themselves and society

Titled Engaged Fatherhood for Men, Families and Gender Equality, the publication is the result of four years of interdisciplinary cooperation between experts from three main disciplines: health, social policy and organisations

The lecturer from the Faculty of Education Sciences and researcher for the Joaquim Molins Figueras Chair, Marc Grau, has co-edited the book Engaged Fatherhood for Men, Families and Gender Equality. The open-access publication is the result of four years of interdisciplinary cooperation between experts from three major disciplines: health, social policy and organisations. The project stems from an expert meeting on fatherhood that Marc Grau co-held at the University of Harvard in 2018.

As such, the book offers a fresh perspective on the benefits of engaged fatherhood for men, for families and for gender equality. The content is aimed at a broad and engaged audience, including policy makers and organisational leaders, health professionals and academics.

The book is made up of 17 chapters, in which qualitative and quantitative studies from different corners of the world, from Australia to South Africa, to Scotland and Chile, endeavour to better understand the implications of paternal involvement. The book ends with a set of principles that could help reduce perceived barriers to parental involvement.

The project and the book were funded by the Social Trends Institute, and supported by the Women and Public Policy Program (Harvard Kennedy School), and the International Center for Work and Family (IESE Business School).
