Marc Grau, an IESF researcher, publishes as article about the connection between family relationships and the misuse of new technologies
The researcher and coordinator of the Joaquim Molins Figueras Childcare and Family Policies Chair, Marc Grau, has published an article on the connection between family relationships and the misuse of new technologies. The article is called “Family relationships and internet abuse in 25 European countries” and was published in the Families, Relationships and Societies magazine.
The article describes the conclusions of a study based on a sample of around 18,000 children and adolescents, between the ages of 11 and 16 from 25 different European countries. It also identifies sociodemographic risk factors such as sex, place of residence and age, etc.
The results suggest that the quality of family relationships are a significant factor in the misuse of new technologies and explains that the solution to this problem can be found in the family environment. Grau argues that dialogue must be promoted between parents and children to reduce an excessive use of the internet among young people.
