Marta Trapero: “The important thing won't be how much will be invested in health, but how it will be done”

The lecturer at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences at UIC Barcelona has analysed the economic impact of COVID-19 in an online session organized by Novo Nordisk and BCN Management Company in cooperation with the Catalan Health Service, which was attended by health and financial experts

The lecturer at the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences, Marta Trapero, took part in the online session “Health Leadership During and After the COVID-19 Crisis” organised by Novo Nordisk and BCN Management Company in cooperation with the Catalan Health Service, and aimed at analysing the coronavirus crisis in terms of the economic and health implications.

Marta Trapero explained that the financial impact of this crisis will depend on a number of factors: “The key will be the effectiveness of measures to prevent companies closing, public debt financing conditions, and how we will obtain the financing needed to avoid a financial crisis.” She explained that inequalities will inevitably increase, which the healthcare system, therefore, “will have to look at and take into account.” Moreover, throughout her lecture she stressed that “the emphasis needs to be placed, not just on how much will be invested in health from now on, but how it will be done.”

Also taking part in the session were the economist and lecturer at the University of Barcelona, José María Gay de Liébana; the director of the Vall d’Hebron Hospital, Albert Salazar; and the manager of the Catalan Health Service Care Department, Caridad Pontes.
