Medicine student Elena Echevarne reflects on her rotation in Primary Care

The sixth-year student has published an article in the magazine Fer Salut, printed by the Primary Care Centre (CAP) in Sarrià-Vallvidrera-Les Planes, in which she shares her experience of the work placement she undertook with them.

In their final year of the Bachelor's Degree in Medicine, students complete rotations that give them the chance to experience first-hand the various specialities and services that form part of their future profession.  Primary care may seem like one of the least attractive specialities for students as it does not take place in a hospital. However, as sixth-year student Elena Echevarne discovered, it can be a very enriching experience.

In her article published in Fer Salut run by the Sarrià-Vallvidrera-Les Planes CAP, Echevarne explains how “rotating through primary care gives you the opportunity to combine all the medical knowledge you have acquired throughout your degree programme, consolidate it and put it into practice".

The student decided to write the article, encouraged by her tutor at the CAP, whom she thanked for her support: "A medical student is like a small tree that grows crooked. This crooked tree will not grow, nor will it correct its posture, if it only leans on one rigid stake. It also needs water, light, warmth and fertiliser to grow tall and strong. I have been able to benefit from all of these nutrients and much more, thanks to the professionals I have worked with during my rotation at CAP Sarrià. I am immensely grateful to them for having contributed in such a positive way to my learning”.
