Mortarboards Awarded to New Doctorate Degree Holders on Feast Day of St. Thomas Aquinas

On Sunday, 27 January 2012, on the occasion of the feast day of St. Thomas Aquinas, the patron saint of universities, mortarboards were awarded to the new doctorate degree holders from the 2012-2013 academic year. During the ceremony, the Extraordinary Doctorate Award was also presented.

After a few words of welcome and thanks for all those attending, UIC Rector Dr. Pere Alavedra awarded mortarboards to the new graduates: Meriam Al-Fawal, Guillermo Carabí, Marcos de Almeida, José Díez, Ernest Ferré, Marc García, José Antonio González, Ramón Hernández, Oxana Klementieva, Víctor Küppers, Ricardo Mamblona, Tania Martiáñez, Rosa Monzó, Héctor Parellada, Carlos Rey, Javier Sanz, Mónica Segura, Carol Solís, Eva Stöber, Mónica Vicario and Alexandra Menoyo.

Dr. Alexandra Menoyo received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award for her doctoral thesis directed by Dr. Josep Clotet, "Nutrient availability regulates cell cycle through Pho85 CDK-dependent control of Cln3 cyclin stability”, in the area of health research.

On the occasion of the event, Dr. Frederic Marimon, the Vice Rector for Research, acknowledged the hard work done by the new graduates during their research and the excellent professional approach they displayed at all times. During his speech, the Vice Rector also mentioned the Doctorate School, which was recently created at the UIC and has been operating at the university for the last two months.

Finally, the Rector closed the ceremony by welcoming the new doctors.
