“My time at Harvard helped me discover that there are many different ways to interpret dentistry” – Camilo Torres, 5th year Dentistry student

Camilo Torres, a fifth year Dentistry student, spent a week at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, attending classes and participating in implantology, maxillofacial surgery and sedation residencies along with other students.

“Dentistry in the United States is a little different from how it is practised in Spain, which is why I asked to go on the study visit to the Harvard School of Dental Medicine to broaden my education”, explained Camilo Torres. After passing the various and numerous strict entrance tests for this US university, Camilo was able to achieve his dream and participate in a programme aimed at visiting students.

As he explained on his return “I had the opportunity to attend classes and talks along with other third year students, as well as attend various interventions as part of the residencies in implantology, maxillofacial surgery and sedation”. “To spend some time being just another student in an institution as emblematic as the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, with more than 150 years of history, was an incredible experience”, said Camilo. “I’ve learned that there are many ways to interpret dentistry and the secret lies in selecting the best parts of each one. As a future professional this has motivated me to continue to search for new role models as part of my education and I’d encourage my classmates to try it too”.

Students who, like Camilo, would like to complement their professional and personal education with visits to other universities, have various international agreements and bilateral mobility programmes available to them, offered by UIC Barcelona.
