Nearly 100 UIC Participants in 2015 Unirun University Race

Close to 100 members of the UIC community participated in the first edition of the Unirun race on Sunday, 8 March 2015. The race is sponsored by the Catalan University Sports Association and the twelve universities in Catalonia.

More than 2,500 people participated in the first edition of the Unirun race on a course of 6,779 metres. The race started in Barcelona's Sant Martí district and ended in the city of Sant Adrià de Besòs. The distance is the same as the annual boat race between the universities of Oxford and Cambridge.

The participants formed teams and supported one of the Catalan universities by wearing a T-shirt with the university's colours and logo.

Ivan Tibau, the Catalan government's Secretary General for Sport, presented trophies to the race winners in a ceremony attended by UIC Rector Dr. Pere Alavedra and Dr. Belén Zárate, the Vice Rector for the University Community.

The Unirun race is sponsored by the Catalan University Sports Association (ECU), whose members include the twelve universities in Catalonia. The race also receives support from Barcelona City Council, the Secretariat General for Sport of Catalonia and Sant Adrià de Besòs City Council. It is managed by Gaudium Sports.
